Backroom Series
The Burren Backroom Series was launched in October of 2011. Initially the series focused on traditional music curated & presented by Brian O'Donovan (of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH). Since then, the series has expanded to also include local & national acts of all genres, directed by Tom Bianchi. The Burren Backroom Series shows are well known for their intimacy, pristine sound, & the unique atmosphere of The Burren, created by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy & Louise Costello.

Brian O'Donovan:

As well as his work with The Backroom Series, Brian is host of the popular WGBH radio program “A Celtic Sojourn, (also on the internet at www.wgbh.org/celtic). Originally from Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Brian now lives in Cambridge.

For over 7 years, Brian has been hosting The Backroom Series on Wednesday nights (& some Sundays). These gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional Celtic music as well as special guests, & conversations around the music.

Tom Bianchi:

Throughout his 20 year career in Boston as a singer, songwriter, bassist & busker, Tom Bianchi has always hosted Open Mics, Singer/Songwriter Nights & booked local area clubs along the way. It only makes sense that The Burren Backroom Series would be the next step in his career of supporting live music.

While hosting the Sunday Songwriter Series & working as sound engineer for most Burren shows it became clear that there was an opportunity to expand The Burren Backroom Series to include all genres, complimenting Brian's ongoing traditional Irish Series.

In July 2015, Tommy & Louise offered Tom the space to develop this new leg of the series & it has been going strong ever since.
